ECU PIRATE BOXING CLUB
The Boxing Club offers participation through three levels:
Recreational – Learn the fundamentals and develop your skills while jumping rope, shadowboxing, hitting the heavy bag, speed bag and mitts. Get in Shape and learn to incorporate a boxing routine into your fitness life. Sparring – Once you master the fundamentals and are in shape, Climb between the ropes and take on fellow club members through controlled action. It may hurt a little, but you will love it. Competition – Compete against other colleges and advance to regional and national championships. Requires greater commitment and registration with USA Boxing. Last year, our first year, our club qualified four Pirate Boxers for the regionals at West Virginia University and one earned a spot to the Quarterfinals of the National Championships at the United States Military Academy, West Point. Represent the Pirates and beat down the competition. |
When/Where do we meet? – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 in the basement of Christenbury Gym. Come when you can – we don’t have tryouts and we understand schedules get hectic. Two free visits to see if you like it, then you need to join.
Do I need prior experience? No – we welcome everyone. We will teach you how to box – you just need to bring the effort. What does it cost? Club dues are $50 per semester – affordable considering what you would pay for national championship level coaching at a local gym. Plus you get a really cool T-shirt. We have some equipment, but you will want to eventually buy your own instead of sharing. Sparring and Competition incur additional costs – but it is worth it to beat down a Tar Heel, Terrapin, Nittany Lion, Mountainer, Keydet, Black Knight, Falcon or any other poor challenger that quickly learns that Pirates give No Quarter and offer No Mercy. |
